Head's Blog: Remembrance and Memories

Head's Blog

Thank you for all the messages of support which have flooded into school for the Bush family either by email or letter. All of these are being passed on to the family who are extremely grateful and find them a great comfort in this desperately difficult time for them.

On Tuesday, we gathered Years 3 to 8 and the staff outdoors together for our first group assembly since February 2020.  At this occasion, we remembered Edward and the bright and happy life he led at Moulsford, the care he showed for others and the sense of purpose he demonstrated in all that he did. All of these qualities made him the very obvious choice, for both staff and boys, as Head Boy in the first term of Year 8. We also acknowledged that the school flag would be flying at half-mast in Edward’s memory.

The boys in 8M & 8R completed their Common Entrance exams on Thursday. This is always a seminal moment in the life of a Moulsford boy and it was super to see all of Year 8 embark on their very exciting leavers’ programme, which is designed to educate, inspire and be fun. On Friday the boys had a treasure hunt on the Ridgeway (which included a 2 hour walk), followed by an excellent live talk in the theatre on the perils of addiction of all sorts.

On Monday 14th June the Prime Minister will give notice of potential changes to the Covid restrictions due to take effect from 21st June. Media reports would suggest that restrictions are not going to be lifted as planned prior to the end of the Moulsford term, but we must wait to hear what Boris Johnson says. The knock-on effect of a delay in the government’s roadmap from 21st June is likely to be significant to the Moulsford programme and to all parental school events, and possibly the residential trips for Years 5 – 8. We will need a bit of time to analyse the information which is released by Whitehall, and we hope to communicate with parents by Thursday 17th June. As ever, thank you for your patience.
