A good half term of tennis

As the first few matches of the 2021 Moulsford tennis fixtures end, a lot of good results and progress has come back from the matches. Fixtures against Oratory Prep, Oratory Senior school, St Andrews, and Magdalen all took place across the first half of the Summer term.

Oratory Senior School were our first opponents of the term, with 4 pairs of year 7’s and 8’s each playing two games. The Year 7’s triumphed in their games, whilst the Year 8’s just lost out against tough opposition. Overall the fixture was a draw, a good start against strong players.

On Monday the 17th, the second fixture of the Summer term started. This time, Moulsford would come out strongly, with pairs from Year 5 up to Year 8 all claiming wins. Two Year 7 pairs and one Year 8 pair made their way to the Oratory whilst the Year 5 and Year 6 pairs played at home. A brilliant quality of tennis was played across all matches, with the Year 8’s claiming a win, whilst the Year 7’s drew one of their games, before winning the other.

The third set of matches took place at St Andrews, where 2 pairs of Year 5’s and two pairs of Year 8’s travelled to on the 20th of May. The Year 5’s played brilliantly to claim wins in both their games, whilst the Year 8’s won one of their 4 games.

The final match of the half term was against our toughest opponents so far, Magdalen College. In tricky conditions, with wet grass and strong wind, 12 Year 7’s and 12 Year 8’s played incredibly well against a top tennis school. Many of the Year 8’s had never played on grass before so it was an all-round brilliant effort. Overall the first half of Moulsford’s tennis season has been massively positive, with a few more games still to come.
