Virtual Meeting with Parents
On Tuesday the parents of boys in Year 5 attended a Virtual Senior Schools Information Evening. The event began with a talk from Mr Beardmore-Gray, who gave an overview of the senior school process. This was followed by a talk from Mrs Squire (Deputy Head-Academic) about the mechanics of pre-testing and how Moulsford prepares boys.
Our special guest was Nicola Huggett, the Head of Cheltenham College, who highlighted factors parents should consider when choosing a senior school. She gave very sound and practical advice about what to look for when you visit a senior school, including the suggestion to arrive 10 minutes early and simply sit in your car and watch the world go by around you to help you pick up on the vibe. She also highlighted the importance of attention to detail from the Admissions team in your dealings with them, to help establish your confidence in the school as a professional outfit. This was supported with an entertaining anecdote about Van Halen’s approach on tour – it was apparently in their contract to have a bowl of M&Ms delivered to their room, but minus the brown ones. If their production team successfully achieved this, they knew they were dealing with professionals with excellent attention to detail, and would book them again.
The evening concluded with an opportunity for parents to ask questions about the whole senior school process.
This information evening is held each year to help parents before they make the next step. After this meeting, Year 5 parents are encouraged to book in for an individual virtual chat with Mr Beardmore-Gray to discuss the right options for each boy.
It was an enjoyable evening and we hope that parents found it interesting and useful.
