Parents of boys in 5O witnessed a wonderful assembly on Thursday which focused on the New Year’s Honours list. This theme gave boys ample opportunity to dress in drag, and there were convincing portrayals of Olivia Newton John and the Queen alongside Ben Stokes and Elton John. They also talked about honours that have gone to the general public for services to the community and wider society, whose day-to-day work often goes unnoticed. 5O’s message was that doing the small things to the best of our ability takes us on a path to doing everything really well, and that this ultimately leads to fulfilment, recognition and reward.
At the same assembly I announced the senior Year 8 appointments for this term of Hunter R (Head Boy), Kit H-N (Deputy Head Boy) and James T (Head of Boarding). All three boys have been appointed to their posts as a result of quietly going about their daily life in a calm, understated but effective way, and getting the small things right for both themselves and others.
