4 Golds and 1 Silver!

This is the big Judo Tournament of the year with schools from all over the country being invited.  There were about 140 competitors in total, all looking to take one of the coveted medals on offer.  All the Moulsford boys have worked so hard preparing for this Tournament, with many of our boys having just moved up to the Senior Judo Club from the Juniors which is a massive jump in itself.

We took a team of ten Judoka (Judo Players) and were in high hopes of getting a few medals, so what actually happened surprised even me!  Not only did we win 4 Gold and 1 Silver Medals, but we also took the Overall Trophy for the most successful school.

The day started well with Sam C winning all his matches by Ippon (the maximum ten point score) and taking a well-earned Gold in the U30kg Category.  This was followed by Will C destroying all of his opponents by throwing them for Ippon to take Gold in the U38Kg Category.  Our next medal came from Barnaby B, who looked tiny in his weight group but he fought his way through to the final where he narrowly lost to take the Silver in the U46kg Category. Next up was Oliver S who also won his matches by Ippon to take Gold in his weight category.  Our final competitor was Edward B who had the battle of the day against a Club Player who had represented GBR, after the 3 minutes had passed and there was no score it went into Golden Score where any score will win the match – the boys battled on for another six and a half minutes before Edward’s opponent was penalised and Edward won the match.  Edward was by then totally exhausted and all of his other matches were really hard work but Edward never gave up and beat all of his opponents to take Gold in the U50Kg category.

Other boys who took part but didn’t get a medal fought really well, with many of them just missing out on a medal and they were such good ambassadors for the school that I had them presented with “Spirit of Judo Medals” during assembly this week.  These boys were:  Leo F, Kit HN, Wyatt I, Oliver J, and George P.

Well done boys - a great result and I’m very proud of you all.
