A gold medal for Antonio!
On Saturday 11th March we took a small squad of four boys to the National IAPS Judo Championship at High Wycombe.
This is a very tough Championship with some 130 competitors from around the country taking part. First up was Barnaby B who lost his first match within the first few seconds to the boy who went through to take the silver medal in his weight category. His next match was one of the best of the day, which ended sadly with Barnaby narrowly losing, which put him out of the competition.
Next up was Oliver S, whose nerves got the better of him in his first match which he lost, meaning that he could only get a bronze medal. To do that, he would have to win lots of matches, which he went on to do - match after match after match Oliver just got stronger and stronger, winning all of his matches decisively and taking our first Bronze medal of the day.
Now it was the turn of Edward B who started the day well, beating his first three opponents before narrowly losing to the eventual gold medallist. This meant he had the fight off for the bronze medal which sadly Edward just missed out on.
Antonio was the last to compete. He made short work of all his opponents to take Gold, winning every match with maximum points. Antonio was defiantly a class above all of his opponents.
Well done boys - a great result and I’m very proud of you all.
