After graduating with a degree in English and Politics, two possible careers lay before me: teaching English, or working for an NGO or PAC.
Happily, I have found teaching to be an extremely enjoyable vocation and after three successful years teaching English and Drama at secondary schools in Bristol and Bath, I jumped at the chance to take up a teaching position at Moulsford.
Over the years I have taught a number of subjects alongside English and have found this extremely informative in learning about the transferable skills required for boys to participate fully across the curriculum. In particular, good speaking and listening, and an ability to collaborate well with others can have a huge effect on how much boys take from their lessons. As such, I feel that Drama is an essential part of the curriculum, not only as an artistic form of expression, but as a practical way of teaching a wide variety of life skills.
With such a wealth of acting talent at Moulsford I am sure that Drama will continue to be a popular and engaging subject for the boys. Alongside their drama lessons, I thoroughly enjoy working on the various school plays and continue to be amazed by the dedication and maturity which is constantly on display during these events. My simple aim as Head of Drama is to continue pushing the department to greater heights in order to ensure all boys achieve their potential.
When not enthusing boys as to the merits of drama, I am a fair-weather kayaker, an (extremely) amateur baker and a proud but rather sleep-deprived father of three.
