A welcome return for popular charity event
Three years since the last event, it was fantastic to welcome The Summer Lunch back to Moulsford this week, raising money for Child Bereavement UK and Young Lives vs Cancer.
Almost three hundred ladies (and one or two gentlemen) sat down to listen to our guest speaker, Jo Tutchener-Sharp, Founder of fashion brand Scamp & Dude, in conversation. Jo gave a fascinating insight into how her life changed after she underwent treatment for a brain tumour. She talked about setting up her business and all of the initiatives that she has introduced to ensure that the business always gives back to charity. She also gave the audience one or two celebrity story exclusives!
Guests enjoyed shopping at a wide selection of high quality stalls, many new for this year, which were set up around the sides of the marquee-lined sports hall. A coffee van and shopping were open from 10am, and judging by the amount of shopping bags dotted around the hall, many took advantage of the opportunity to buy gifts and unique items. Ten per cent of all takings by the stalls were donated to the charities so guests could shop guilt-free!
Representatives from both charities attended the event and sold hundreds of raffle tickets. The ‘Bid on the Bling’ raffle, with a chance to win some gold, quartz and diamond earrings was also extremely popular. The silent auction was once again a big draw, with some phenomenal lots on offer including garden design, Grand Prix tickets and Lords tickets. Thank you to parents and local businesses who donated such incredible prizes to the raffle and auction.
The delicious lunch was provided by a fabulous new caterer, Henley-based Sage & Squash, and guests enjoyed a glass of rose from Oaken Grove vineyard.
At the time of writing, the total raised is still being finalised but we are hoping that it will be close to £20,000!
This is the final lunch organised by the outgoing committee with Anna-Rose Anness as Chair, and we would like to thank everyone who has supported the event. We wish the new committee the very best of luck, and look forward to next year’s event!
