Fireworks and Rugby at Orwell Park School

Last weekend, fourteen boys travelled east, to near Ipswich, to kick start the U12 rugby season. We were terrifically hosted by Orwell Park School, the new school of Old Moles, George and William Alderson. The boys were kindly given their own area in the boarding house which was tastefully decorated with a pink theme: duvet covers ranging from My Little Pony to Dora the Explorer!  On Friday night we were lucky enough to take part in the school's bonfire and fireworks night, which gave us time to meet new friends and catch up with old ones. On Saturday morning we travelled to Felixstowe Pier for some fresh air and a little dabble on the 2p arcade slots.

The weather cleared just in time on Saturday afternoon, allowing perfect conditions for running rugby. The opening match was against our hosts Orwell Park; the first half began as a slightly cagey affair with some good handling, constructing positive plays and eventual points. The second half was a chance for a complete mix up of squads, the boys played with freedom and flair seeing Old Mole George Alderson crossing the whitewash twice. The second match was against a larger and more physical side from Norwich School. Moulsford defended fearlessly, stopping Norwich's ball carriers before they got up a head of steam. With ball in hand the Moulsford boys created space and showed great awareness to pick some dangerous lines of running.

What impressed me the most across both matches was how much the boys supported each other and showed the strength of unity. This was a good start to the season and it will be exciting to see where we go from here. A huge thank you for all the support on the touch line and to all the staff and pupils at Orwell Park for making us so welcome.
