The inspirational James Shone rows past Moulsford

The boys were given a brief break from lessons today to run down to the river bank and support the inspirational James Shone, who is midway through his fundraising Thames Challenge.  Cheering and waving him into the Moulsford creek, the boys gave James a fantastic welcome, and Moulsford provided a much appreciated ‘pit-stop’ on his 128 mile journey.

Rowing a tub pair boat loaned by the Leander rowing club, his journey is taking him from Lechlade in Gloucestershire, to Teddington, with his third day passing Moulsford en route from Abingdon to Pangbourne.

James Shone was a teacher and housemaster, who was forced to quit teaching in 2013 following a brain tumour that left him without sight and his body partially disabled.  Motivated by his desire to see children fulfil their potential, James set up the charity ‘I Can And I Am’, and he visits hundreds of schools to speak about his journey and the importance of inflating the balloon of self-belief.  Having visited Moulsford in November 2016 to talk to the boys as part of the Learning for Life (LFL) programme, it was fantastic to welcome James back to Moulsford and to support him on his fundraising adventure.
