A great start to the season in the West Country
The 1st XI and Colts A enjoyed another excellent early season mini-tour to the West Country. We travelled down to play Taunton Prep on Friday and the Colts made a really encouraging start to their season, chasing down their hosts 123 comfortably. The 1sts were less successful, but batted well against a good attack to post 131. Taunton's hard hitting was ultimately too much for us though and valuable lessons were learnt in the field. The boys then thoroughly enjoyed their evenings, with the majority being hosted by parents of Taunton boys, and some of the Colts staying in the school's boarding house.
On Saturday, after an early morning swim, we travelled to All Hallows and, on this occasion, both teams emerged victorious with some excellent cricket played. We were, as ever, very well hosted and it was lovely to see the boys getting to know their opponents, both on and off the pitch.
Ultimately, there were a number of excellent individual performances. In the 1st XI, Ollie M made 54 against Taunton, George K made 68 not out against All Hallows and Rory K took a rare hat trick, also against All Hallows. In the Colts, both Jackson A and Morgan P made 50s against All Hallows, and Ted C also came close to a half century against Taunton. Even more importantly though, all twelve boys in both squads contributed significantly and benefitted from the experience, representing their school impressively throughout the trip.
