Chinese New Year
The Pre-Prep boys presented their assembly about Chinese New Year to their parents and to many of the boys from the Prep School on Tuesday morning. They had been looking at Chinese New Year. Lions and Leopards told us the traditional Chinese story of how the Signs of the Zodiac came to be. They read in clear voices and everyone listened as to the tale unfolded of the twelve Zodiac animals. The Tigers Class then explained to us how Chinese New Year is celebrated and gave us some information on the Dragon Dance, which is key to the celebrations. Dragons represent wisdom, power and wealth. It is believed that when the Dragon Dance is performed on New Year’s Day, it scares away evil spirits and all the bad luck. Tigers then treated us to their very own Dragon Dance! The assembly was brought to a close by the brilliant Bobcats who sang us a song called "Chinese Dragon". This was performed with increasing gusto and some great facial expressions for the roaring parts!
