Oliver G competes for the county
Oliver G in Year 4 represented Oxfordshire in the boys 9U Tennis County Cup last weekend. Oxfordshire had been drawn in Group H with Buckinghamshire, Gloucestershire and the favourites Hertfordshire.
First up for Oxfordshire was Hertfordshire and in the singles Oliver starting in what would end up as a marathon of a match with him being on court for over an hour in a format called FAST4. With every game going to deuce, Oliver was 3-0 down. He then managed to win the next three games to take it to a tie break, but unfortunately lost the tie break to lose the match 4-3. In the doubles against Hertfordshire, Oliver and his partner had another long match and won in the tie break 7-5.
Next up was Gloucestershire and in the singles what looks like an easy 4-0 win for Oliver on paper, but the result does not show what a tough match it was. In the doubles Oliver and his partner lost in the tie break 7-4.
The last matches were against Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire still had a chance to top the group. Oliver won his singles match 4-2. The doubles again went to a tie break only for them to lose 9-7. Overall Tennis Oxfordshire finished second in the group, which is their best result in many years at the 9 and under age group.
