Leo races in Spain

Leo R in Year 6 competed in the IAME Karting Euro Series Winter Cup in Valencia last weekend against 46 of the strongest young drivers in Europe. Testing at the circuit had gone well with Leo consistently among the front-runners. Most notably, the Spanish teams were particularly strong on their home circuit.

Leo was the fastest in qualification and therefore awarded pole position for all 3 qualifying heats. The first race went to plan, with Leo winning from the front. The margin was, however, less than a tenth of a second. In the next two heats he faced a real battle but was pleased to finish second in both, with a few meters separating the first three drivers. The combined results from the three heats resulted in Leo retaining pole position for the pre-final.

In the pre-final, the top 4 drivers pulled clear of the rest of the field with all four finishing within half a second of each other and Leo in second place.  The result of the pre-final was that Leo would start the final on the outside of the front row. He made a strong start and again the top four drivers drew clear of the rest of the field over the 15 lap race with the lead changing several times. Leo started the last lap in second place but, suffered contact with another driver as they battled for position at the slowest part of the course. Leo ran wide, losing ground to the leading kart. The following three drivers were then left to battle for the remaining podium positions. In a tight run to the line Leo ended the race in 3rd position.

Leo will now go on to contest 4 rounds of the European Championship in Belgium, Italy, France and Spain later this year.

Daniel G competes in table tennis

Oxfordshire’s Schools Individual Table Tennis Championship was held last week at Kidlington Table Tennis Club with 58 entrants taking part in four age groups.  Daniel G in Year 6 represented Moulsford where he was competing with boys from lots of different schools from across the county including Abingdon Prep and Magdalen College School.

The standard of play was very good with many exciting matches.  Having won the tournament last year Daniel was the one to beat, but unfortunately this year he was knocked out after a close semi-final match.

Congratulations to Daniel on a great achievement.
