Moulsford Boys Form the Guard of Honour
On Sunday 27th May, Mr Griffiths and Mr Weeks took 10 boys from Years 6 to 8 to Twickenham to form part of the Guard of Honour at the England v Barbarians match. As one of only two schools invited, we were treated to lunch in the Martin Johnson Suite, before the boys were presented with new kit, which was a wonderful surprise for them all! We then spent time rehearsing the Guard of Honour, practising the National Anthem and even fitted in time for a chat with former England players Ugo Monye and David Flatman.
After watching the players run onto the pitch, we took our seats right behind the Barbarians sub bench. We had a great view and it provided us with the perfect opportunity to get some autographs! Whether you support England or not, we were behind the right team!
It was a huge privilege to take the boys and be part of such a special day. These boys were selected for their effort and commitment over the season and represented a range of abilities, but share a determination to do their best.
A memorable day for rugby at Moulsford and the ethos for sport as a whole.
Following our appearance at Twickenham, Adam Cottingham who is the RFU's Kids First Manager came to visit us to discuss prep school rugby. Adam spent time with boys from Years 5 to 8 where he discussed how we had used the acronym CARDS (Creativity, Awareness, Resilience, Decision-Making, Self-Organisation) both in the classroom and during our rugby sessions. Adam also asked the boys about what they have liked or disliked and anything they would look to change about Rugby at their age. After chatting to the boys, Adam then spoke to Mr Griffiths, Mr Springer and Mr Weeks about how the RFU could assist prep schools in ensuring that all children are engaged in the sport, at every level and ability. He enjoyed his visit and we look forward to working with the RFU again in the near future.
