Gamelan Workshop and Tate Modern
On Tuesday 6th March, all Year 7 spent the day in London, playing Gamelan at the Royal Festival Hall and visiting the Tate Modern art gallery in London.
Gamelan is the indigenous music of Indonesia, and the purpose-built room in the basement of the RFH is a fine setting for their Javanese Gamelan Orchestra. Having spent 2 hours in a practical session with a very experienced tutor, the boys then enjoyed the sights and sounds of the South Bank on their way to visit the Tate Modern, to take in some of the modern art on display.
A lorry blocking the M4 carriageway at Windsor helped to make the coach journeys unusually long, but this didn't dampen the enjoyment of what turned out to be a very pleasant, and culturally rich, day out.
