A whizz-popping World Book Week at Moulsford

Yet again, we had a marvellous, squibbly literary atmosphere at Moulsford during World Book Week.  From gothic tales for Years 7 and 8 to stories at lunchtime for Pre-Prep, to the Big Read in the theatre on Wednesday; from the Extreme Reading competition during half term, to the hotly contested Bananagrams competition; from the Poetry Slam to the Demosthenes Competition, the boys from Bobcats up to Year Eight participated in a wonderful array of activities and events.

On Tuesday the boys in Year 7 listened to some creepy, gothic tales and Year 8 watched a World War One poetry play, both performed by Red Heart Theatre.

Each lunchtime, our staff read to our Pre-Prep boys and some of our Pre-Prep Dads came in at the end of the day to read – the boys loved hearing all these stories.

On Wednesday, the Bananagrams final took place between James A (Year 3), Monty D (Year 4), Harry T (Year 5) and Oli S (Year 6). The event was vociferously supported by a strong crowd, and won by Harry T.  Well done Harry and many thanks to Mr Chitty for organising this hotly contested competition.

The ever-popular Big Read took place in the theatre, with the Year 7 Play set providing an imaginative backdrop to the boys’ relaxed poses on beanbags, cushions and even a lilo! At break-time the chilled-out atmosphere in the theatre was replaced by the beats and rhymes of the Year 7 and 8 Poetry Slam. The boys of 8M won with their political rap, with Morgan P and Milo G picking up the ‘Eminem’ prize for outstanding performance.

World Book Day itself saw the boys and many staff dressing up in Roald Dahl themed costumes – see separate story about this and about our World Book Day Assembly and do have a look at the Moulsford Flickr albums to see lots of photos about all that went on during this whizz popping week!

Many thanks to Richard Martin and all the staff who helped make the week a great success!
