Sport Whole School

Sunshine and smiles all round

Moulsford’s Sports Day took place last Friday, albeit without the backdrop of colourful gazebos and without enthusiastic parents in attendance. However, this didn’t dampen the boys’ spirits and the whole event took place in glorious sunshine and amongst an atmosphere of competitive teamwork.

The Pre-Prep boys kicked off proceedings and the front field was full of energetic and excited Bobcats, Tigers, Leopards, Lynx and Lions all dressed in their colourful t-shirts ready to represent their Houses. The boys took part in individual sprints, sprinting relays, hoop throwing, treasure collection (which involved some very fast crawling), a tennis ball relay and a water sports event! All of the boys did their best for their Houses and we are extremely proud of their tenacity and team work! They showed lovely camaraderie and supported each other brilliantly. There are definitely some future athletes to watch out for as they move up the school.

The boys in Years 3 to 8 then headed out to the back field and following a briefing from Mr Orgill the track and field events were underway by 11.15am, with each house giving their all. A fantastic paella lunch was served out on the field and once the ice lollies were eaten the games continued, with several school records being broken. Congratulations to Clem S and Albie M who broke the Year 3 Long Jump record, Harry M who broke the Year 4 Long Jump record and Barnaby W in Year 6 for his 300 metres record. Harry and Barnaby also took home the Victor Ludorum, with Tom DB in Year 8 winning the trophy for the seniors.

The year group relay races followed, and finally the hotly contested tug of war, when competitive spirit and adrenaline reached its climax, with Cabot taking the final bow.  The overall winner, winning the much coveted House trophy, was Bering.

Huge thanks go to Mr Orgill and Mr MacKinnon for organising such a superb event and all of the members of staff, who play such an important role on the day.  It was wonderful to see every boy in the school contributing so wholeheartedly for their house, in a fantastic atmosphere of effort, reward and, above all, cheerful participation.
