Learning new skills on the pitch
During half term, just over 80 children from Moulsford and the wider community enjoyed a 3-day rugby camp at the school led by Russell Earnshaw, England Under 18 coach. The children were taught by a variety of coaches from England Sevens, London Irish, Oxford Brookes, Bristol Rugby and Saracens DPP. Wednesday also saw a special visit from Holly Aitchison and Deborah Fleming from England Sevens who worked with all of the young players and even found time for an arm wrestle!
The sessions were highly games-based, allowing players to explore new skills such as kicking and transitioning to contact in context and to adapt the sessions themselves. With the main focus being on having fun and falling in love with the game, many sessions were built around 'Gamification', with the players being in charge of 'pausing' sessions, solving tactical problems and using 'replays' to have another go at a skill.
The feedback from the camp has been excellent and we hope to run more sessions in the future.
