A cultural day out.

On Tuesday, all the Year 7 boys travelled to London to the Royal Festival Hall to enjoy a Gamelan percussion workshop using genuine Indonesian instruments.  This trip forms the culmination of a project studying the indigenous music of Indonesia, which is very percussive and is played mostly on gongs and metallophones. The workshops were given by a very talented and experienced Gamelan player and teacher. He inspired the boys both with his coaching and his also his virtuoso playing skills. This year’s group managed to produce a very authentic sound and were commended by the tutor for their efforts. They thoroughly enjoyed playing all the different instruments within the Gamelan Orchestra.  Check our Twitter feed to hear a couple of mini clips.

The other half of the day was spent strolling along the South Bank, taking in the colourful sights and sounds of this very vibrant part of London, ending up at the Tate Modern Gallery where the boys were free to enjoy everything it has to offer. The whole day proved to be both culturally beneficial and great fun!
