Arts Week
With Arts Week now drawing to a close, it is worth reflecting on what a fantastically varied week the Moulsford community has enjoyed.
The Drama department kicked things off beautifully with the Year 5 play ‘The Amazing Maurice and his Educated Rodents’. Two excellent shows were played to a more-than-full house on Monday and Tuesday evenings, with fabulous singing and superb individual and whole cast performances.
Following the Brass, Woodwind and Percussion day at Radley College on Monday, the Music department has had an extremely busy week with two Music Soirees on Wednesday and Thursday. The Soirees started and finished with two full choir performances, and in between were many outstanding individual performances across a range of instruments and musical genres. There was also a Pop Choir performance of Snow Patrol’s ‘Run’ and a Jazz Ensemble rendition of ‘Dance of the Magicians’ by R Perrin.
Added to this was a Percussion workshop from ‘Louder than Life’ also on Thursday, when all the boys in Years 5 – 8 had the opportunity to learn about Samba and Djembe drums – it was very noisy!
Finally, on the music front, the audience at the Pop Vocalist’s concert on Friday enjoyed performances from 28 individual boys, and two by the Pop Choir.
In addition to all of the above, the Art department staged an extremely colourful and varied exhibition of the individual canvasses that the boys produced over the Summer holidays. Beautifully installed in mosaic-style on display boards in the Sports Hall, the boys’ work attracted many visitors – both current and prospective parents, as well as Papplewick’s visiting parents at match tea on Wednesday.
Mr Griffiths led an extremely interesting and engaging Assembly in the Sports Hall with the Art exhibition as backdrop, and an artful display of gymnastics from some senior boys. His message conveyed how important the arts are in helping us all to find creativity in our lives.
A huge amount of effort has gone into Arts Week from both boys and staff. Huge thanks go to all the staff who have made each element such a great success.
