Virtual Moulsford Whole School

Outdoor learning at home

With Virtual Moulsford returning in January, thoughts turned to how to ensure that the Forest School curriculum could continue, even in lockdown. Following the successful launch of the Forest School website last Spring, Mr Squire and Mrs Thatcher were keen to once again provide something for the boys that would allow them to drive their own learning, increase their skill base, get them out into nature and have fun. From these discussions the Forest School Bronze Award was born!

The Award consisted of five separate challenges designed to foster closer links between the boys and the natural world as well as to give them the opportunity to learn some new skills. Challenges ranged from building and maintaining bird feeders to plant and tree identification, learning different knots through to litter picking and even an invertebrate challenge thrown in for good measure!

The teachers have been delighted with the response to this award and have had boys from a range of year groups taking part. In true Moulsford style, each and every boy who took part has shown commitment, an eagerness to learn and above all perseverance with some of the more tricky challenges. Those who completed this award should feel a huge sense of pride. Not only have their actions made a difference to the local wildlife and community where they live, but the boys have also gained some valuable life skills along the way.

Certificates and badges will be sent out shortly to those who successfully completed the award but in the meantime we would like to take this opportunity to thank each and every one of them for being so inspirational!
