Year 7 and Year 5 enjoy talks by authors Anthony Horowitz and Piers Torday respectively

On Wednesday morning Year Seven enjoyed a wonderful talk at the Christ Church Centre in Henley by the internationally renowned author, Anthony Horowitz. As well as talking about the inspiration behind many of his novels (in particular the Alex Rider series), Horowitz also took ideas from the boys concerning a scene he is currently writing for the next Alex Rider adventure. Many of the Year Sevens took the opportunity to meet the author and all of the boys enjoyed a super literary morning. Since returning to school, it has been encouraging to see the subsequent resurgence of the Alex Rider books with our Year Sevens. Many thanks to Anthony Horowitz and the Henley Literary Festival for inspiring our young readers.

On Thursday morning, Year Five went to a talk by author Piers Torday and since it was National Poetry Day, they wrote an Acrostic Poem about their trip.  Well done to our Year 5 writers Sam and James (5O):

M   oulsford went on a trip to Henley

O   n-Thames, to see Piers Torday, the

U   nbelievably good author of the

L    ast Wild trilogy. We

S   aw the famous (but bald) author talk about his past and

F   uture writing career. He told

O   ur listening ears about his childhood. He loved to

R   ead and hardly ever went outside... but that all changed. One

D   ay, his dad took him on a walk, where he found a chocolate orange.

S   ome months later, he

T   ried to write a story about a 'Detectif DOG' (spelling for authenticity). It was

R   eally short, and he never finished it.

I    think his stories have improved since then.

P   iers liked animals as a child, and

T   his shows in his later stories. He also liked going

O   n walks (after his first walk with his dad).

H   is dad told him of monsters hiding in piles of leaves. From

E   ntering the theatre to leaving, we loved every minute of it!

N   owadays, his

L   iterary skills have improved. We loved to hear him speak and

E   veryone applauded...

Y   ou would have too!
