Highclere Castle

Highclere Castle was ours to enjoy for a few hours, as part of our Year 3 Humanities topic on Ancient Egypt.

We all did three activities: a walk outside in the freezing cold, but glorious sunshine, past the cedars of Lebanon, to the walled Monks’ Garden and the Secret Garden; in the school room, we dressed up as Pharaohs and Queens, stamped hieroglyphs, ankhs, scarab beetles, made pyramids and jigsaws; and then the highlight was going around the exhibition of 3000 year old artefacts brought back by the 5th Earl of Carnarvon and then lighting our candles to discover ‘wonderful things’ in the tomb of Tutankhamen.

We definitely added to our knowledge and understanding of Ancient Egypt and had a good time out.
