Noisy fun with brooms, lids and even the kitchen sink!
On Thursday 11th May the whole of Year 5 went to see STOMP at the Ambassadors Theatre, London. When we got on the bus it was very loud from all the commotion of who got to sit next to whom but eventually we got going and it calmed down. The journey took about 2 hours, but it was totally worth it. We got there and had to wait for about 30 minutes for the show to start. The stage was set and we couldn’t work out the plot to the show, it looked like a scrap yard with bin lids and rubbish everywhere!
It started off quite quiet with one man tapping a broom about ….. then lots of other people came onto stage, each with their own broom, making grunting greetings and sweeping. It gradually got louder with harder bangs and more ferocious sweeps. Then they started climbing up the staging and swinging around on harnesses hitting the broken lids, buckets and saucepans to make music…it was incredible!
My favourite part was when four of the eight actors came onto stage carrying broken sinks around their necks. They wore yellow rubber gloves and the sinks had water in them. They started rubbing the metal sinks with their gloves to make a squeaking sound. The funny part was when they stood over buckets and pulled the plug… water came splashing out and it looked like they were going to the loo! One had a lot more water in his sink so it kept going and going, which added to the amusement of the audience!
The finale was a barrage of noise, with the actors smashing bins lids together and stomping on the ground, which is why I guess the show is called STOMP. When we left we actually bumped into two of the guys who had been in the show which was really cool! They gave us all high fives, their hands must have been hurting after high fiving 52 boys…and Mr Martin!
We had an awesome day out and cannot recommend the show enough. Go see it!
