Year 3 Trip to Highclere Castle
Highclere Castle was ours to enjoy for a few hours, as part of our Year 3 Humanities topic on Ancient Egypt. We all did 3 activities in groups: we walked outside on a chilly Spring morning, past the cedars of Lebanon, to the walled Monks’ Garden and the Secret Garden; in the school room, we dressed up as Pharoah, stamped hieroglyphs, ankhs and scarab beetles, made pyramids and jigsaws; and then the highlight of our trip was going around the exhibition which was set up by the present Lady Carnarvon. We saw the most realistic copies of some of the things found in Tutankhamen’s tomb and loads of information about the journey and work of the 5th Earl of Carnarvon and Howard Carter. We definitely added to our knowledge and understanding of Ancient Egypt and had a good trip out.
