A fun and informative day out by the river
The boys started their day learning songs about recycling and materials. They then got into small groups to examine a variety of objects relating to boats and the river. They worked together to identify the objects and the materials that they were made from. They learned some very interesting facts about the old fashioned rowing boats!
Next, the boys made their own Olympic medals using clay moulds and plaster of Paris. They were then tasked with sorting different materials according to their properties, for example, soft, shiny or flexible.
After a very busy morning and lunch by the Thames, we visited the museum. There were so many interactive displays, including a rowing simulator in which they boys had to work as a team to keep in time with the oarsmen, showing them just how tricky rowing can be. There were also opportunities to dress up in old Henley rowing uniform, try out a rowing machine and captain a sailing boat.
The boys thoroughly enjoyed their day!
