A whizpopping, ratwhizzlery Day Out!

Year 3 had a squizzphizzing, scrumdiddlyumptious day at the Roald Dahl Museum!  We started with a scenic walk around Great Missenden; stopping along the way to see sights and places that inspired Roald Dahl’s writing. We saw the petrol pumps of Danny Champion of the World, the window where Sophie first caught sight of the BFG and the library where Matilda would sneak off to every afternoon. We even made it to the church at the top of the hill and were able to see where Roald Dahl was buried.

In the museum, we started in the Reading Room and learned a lot about how Roald Dahl created his characters. We learned that he took inspiration from the way that his friends looked and saw photographs that had inspired Miss Trunchbull and the BFG. We had the opportunity to create our own characters and thought carefully about the way they look, what they do and how they dress! We then moved into the ‘Boy’ and ‘Solo’ rooms for evidence of how his own childhood cheekiness had inspired him to create some very naughty characters!

We left feeling inspired and ready to write our own creative stories - with plenty of character description!
