Year 3 Trip to Roald Dahl Museum

Pre-Prep

A swashbuckling, whizzpopping, scrumdiddlyumptious day!

We walked round the village of Great Missenden to see some of the sights and places that inspired Roald Dahl’s writing: the petrol pumps of Danny Champion of the World, the low roofed houses where Sophie lived and the library where Matilda went in the afternoons. We went up to the church where Roald was buried – a good stretch of our legs!

In the museum, we started in the Reading Room and learned a lot about Roald Dahl’s life and we saw his writing shed; we had the opportunity to try out crazy Dahl sentences and rhymes, try on costumes, and look in the ‘Boy’ and ‘Solo’ rooms for evidence of Roald Dahl’s cheeky childhood escapades and manhood adventures.

We left feeling inspired and ready to write our own creative stories.
