Edward G attends the 2020 Final

Edward G from Year 4 attended the final of the BBC Radio 2 ‘500 Words’ competition this morning.  The final, for the top 50 young writers, should have been held at Buckingham Palace but instead took place online where the finalists were treated to a Zoom party!

The finalists had chats from David Walliams, Chris Evans, Zoe Ball, dancing with Oti from Strictly Come Dancing, singing with Gareth Malone and were also joined by HRH The Duchesss of Cornwall.  It was an exhausting three hours but Ed, looking very smart in his Moulsford uniform, had a very fun morning.

Host Zoe Ball said, “The immense creativity and talent displayed by these young writers is incredible, and to hear their stories brought to life on the Breakfast Show this morning by the likes of David Walliams, Dua Lipa and even The Doctor herself was such a thrill. It was a pleasure to then meet all the kids and their parents in our fabulous virtual Zoom party. Congratulations to all!”

In her speech - that was exactly 500 Words in length - Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cornwall, said: “The last few months have been very difficult, confusing and worrying for lots of you. Thank you for staying at home, being kind to others and cheering up your family and friends whenever you could. You have been brilliant. And so I want to tell you that Zoe, Chris and I have put our thinking caps on. And the three of us are hoping to plan a huge 500 Words party for when parties are allowed again…”

Although Ed did not come away with a medal, it was a fantastic achievement to reach the final 50, in what will be the last year of the competition.  Congratulations to Edward and the rest of the finalists!
